The Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Joseph Conference is a spiritually-based lay organization, part of one of the largest Catholic organizations in the world. St. Vincent de Paul operates in 142 countries and is best known for its food pantries and thrift stores, and for personal visits of its members to the homes of the poor and needy. Established in France in 1833 by a college student named Frederic Ozanam, the Society began its existence in the United States 12 years later, in 1845, in St. Louis.

Our St. Joseph Conference strives to continue this mission. We provide these services/resources:

         1. Bread & Sweets— Every Tuesday and Saturday from 9 am – 11 am at 1133 Adams St.

         2. Food Baskets (one/month per household)— Every Thursday from 9 am – 11 am at 1133 Adams St.

         3. Store Vouchers- Call helpline at 393—9800 for clothing and household goods.

         4. Financial Assistance- Call helpline at 393—9800 and leave a message.

What we have is for those in need or unemployed. We discern and allocate resources (besides food) using our telephone answering system. Depending upon limited resources (specifically, money and volunteer time), we attempt to help every person who seeks financial assistance.

We always welcome volunteers and donations. For more information on, please contact the St. Joseph church office at 842-2525.

The streets that are used to divide the city that both conferences serve are as follows: Morgantown Road, 31W By Pass, Fairview Avenue and Cemetery Road.
